Throwback Thursday: Kimbo Slice and a Riot at Cage Fury Fighting Championship 5

NEW JERSEY

With a whopping 7,300 in attendance, Cage Fury Fighting Championship 5 holds the distinction of being the biggest Northeast regional show ever - and that's due in no small part to the man pictured above, who was lured into the cage to take on former boxing champ Ray Mercer for his very first MMA bout.

The June 23, 2007 CFFC installment had it all. On the undercard, there was Lyman Good, Nick Serra, Jim Miller, Deivadas Taurosevicius, Kevin Roddy and Gregor Gracie, and in the main event... KIMBO SLICE.

Heck, there was even a mini-riot in the cage, which took place immediately after Dante Rivera tapped out Alexis Aquino. Details are hazy on what was the root cause of the kerfluffle, although it was widely speculated that contributing factors included Aquino's temper, bitter ex-training partners and the affections of a woman (seriously).
No one really threw down - the New Jersey commission flooded the cage immediately to break the parties apart. But it was a site to behold to see Team Ricardo Almeida (which included Tom DeBlass, Haz Ibrahim, et al.) squaring off against the Rhino Fight Team (which included Frankie Edgar).

After this event, CFFC went on about a three-and-a-half-year hiatus. But man was this event epic.
