Liveblog: Evolution AMMA Part 1

MMA Journalist is here at the Union County Performing Arts Center in Rahway for the second installment of Evolution Amateur MMA, the latest addition to the New Jersey amateur fight scene. Maestro Steve Katz has one again orchestrated a smooth show, and their are eight bouts on tap. First up: Eric Fleming of the Denville outpost of Team Renzo against Zealous Nation's Lee Burell in a clash of 147 pounders. Round 1 starts with Burrell clipping Fleming with his right hand with enough fury and frequency to prompt Fleming to take it to the ground. What follows is a round and a half of seesaw grappling, with the tide turning repeatedly until Fleming snags Burrell's arm and extends it. Burrell doesn't tap, but his yelp is enough for referee Dave Tirelli, who stops it at 2:13 of Round 2. Good fight and good stoppage. Next up is Mark Agnew of Rhino Fight Team and Danny Massa of Rockland BJJ in a 140-pound pairing. With veteran Erik Uresk in his corner, Agnew comes out and plasters Massa with a one-two combo, and he keeps throwing it throughout the first to great effect, even dropping Massa with it. Massa comes back in Round 2 wisely shooting takedowns, but if it's even going into the third, Agnew turns up the heat with a kneebar attempt and a damn close triangle - which secures him the unanimous decision. Another solid fight.
