Liveblog: M-1 Global Part 1
MMA Journalist is here at Bally's Casino for M-1 Global's "Selection", which is the opening bracket of a tournament that will determine who represents the USA in an international MMA competition. On tap are such local stalwarts as Kevin "I Will Armbar You To Death" Roddy, world-class Muay Thai fighter Rami Ibrahim, and top Fight Factory bantamweight Zach Makovsky. First to the ring is Josh Smidt, a 171 pounder from South Dakota, and 170-pound Bombsquad rep Colin Schrader. This one is quick, with Smidt coming in with his head down and Schrader snagging his neck and jumping to guard for the guillotine. Smidt taps 30 seconds in, and must now return to South Dakota on a slow and sad wagon train. 132-pound Ibrahim is up next, making his MMA debut against another kickboxer in 129-pounder striker Lennox Chance. Chance got dominated by Nick Pace in his MMA debut at the last Ring of Combat, so we'll see if the loss has motivated him. The round begins with Chance scoring with a leg trip and working into mount, and though Ibrahim reverses him a couple times, the Varner Combat Academy rep holds fast and slowly works on the rear naked choke. Ibrahim - a veritable Muay Thai legend - has no choice but to tap at 4:46 of Round 1.
