A Letter from a New York State Assemblywoman

NEW YORK

Sometimes I write to politicians. Sometimes they write back.

Dear Mr. Genia:
Thank you for your letter regarding mixed martial arts (MMA). I am always pleased to receive feedback from my constituents.
Like you, I am deeply committed to legalizing MMA in New York in order to properly regulate the sport and enforce important measures to ensure the safety of athletes. The dangers faced by amateur participants without statutory oversight are dangerous and inexcusable—it is imperative that we act swiftly to keep these athletes safe. That is why I am a proud co-sponsor of Assemblymember Morelle’s bill to authorize and regulate MMA, bringing New York in line with the other 49 states that already have established protocols for MMA. I will continue to advocate on behalf of this important legislation and for the safety of all athletes.
I appreciate you taking the time to write to me. Please feel free to contact me at 718-545-3889 if you have any questions or would like to discuss this issue further.
Sincerely,
Aravella Simotas
New York State Assemblymember
36th District - Queens
