A Letter from the MMA Platinum Gloves Promoter

NEW YORK

Here's a letter from Nic Canobbio, the promoter behind the Long Island-based organization MMA Platinum Gloves (posted with his permission):

Jim,
I read your article about the state of ammy MMA in New York and I want you to know that my organization now requires blood work from its fighters, regardless of whether my sanction body requires it or not.
I also want to comment on the fact that we have always used doctors with combat sports experience as well as 2 professional cutmen. My refs are professional boxing refs that have been certified to ref MMA as well as the majority of my judges.
I read the part where the cage door was left open and I know that was at my first event. I don't think you saw me immediately tell the ref and timekeeper not to start a round without checking the doors and it has never happened again.
I agree that there are many shady promotions in New York but we are certainly not one of them. I have been around combat sports my entire life, working with DiBella Entertainment on professional boxing events as well as working with the Golden Gloves. I am in the business to put on exciting and safe events for the fighters and fans.

Thanks,
Nic Canobbio, VP of Operations
